Rash of heavy rains leave the state in Wisconsin, Minnesota and Illinois

Fort Atkinson, WI - Constant heavy rains, hail, and tornadoes are leaving area residents soggy and upset.

The heavy rains and wild weather left about 15,000 residents without power over the last week, though most power has now been restored.

Some areas reported over 8 inches of rain in just over 2 hours on Thursday, July 22nd. The City of Milwaukee received over 5,992 calls about water that was backed up in home basements and flooding damage is estimated at over 28.5 million dollars.

Due to the weather, many areas reported widespread flooding, including Milwaukee airport where all flights were grounded on July 23rd. State buildings like the Stephenson County Courthouse were also closed down. Sinkholes were also reported in at least two places. One sinkhole swallowed an entire Cadillac Escalade sports utility vehicle.

One family's home had a foundation wall collapse and the American Red Cross had to assist in relief efforts there. To date, two people in Milwaukee were struck by lightening and several tornadoes were reported in Wisconsin, with more wet weather on the way.

Even an old weather record was broken for record rainfall in the Green Bay area. The old record was last set in 1912 with 7.46 inches of rainfall in the month of July. This year's new record is 7.84 inches and counting through the end of the month.

Badger Basement Systems Employee Shares Love of Art with Disabled Students

At 10 a.m. last Friday June 25, a classroom filled with wide-eyed elementary students anticipated the adventure that Chrissy Allard would have planned for them in their art class!

Allard works as Badger Basement System's marketing coordinator, but leapt at the chance to interact with children. So, she spent the morning with cognitively disabled students at Luther Elementary. She has always loved helping students connect with art and to develop their art skills, and here was her chance!

Allard read aloud to the students and even created a mural to help them see how they can use art to bring a story to life! She read a "Magic School Bus" book that took the 11 students on a tour through outer space. Through only using chalk and black paper, Allard helped the students to use their imaginations and create outer space in their very own classroom!

Allard loves to work with children, and is no stranger to Luther Elementary. She had spent some time as a student teacher there and at Purdy Elementary before she graduated from the University of Wisconsin- Whitewater. She received her degree in Art Education and Advertising; a perfect precursor for what she does today!

"I feel it's important for all children to be able to express themselves through art. It's also another way to integrate other subjects and avenues for learning," said Allard.

This community event will take place on June 12 from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Capitol Square (at MLK Jr. Blvd.) Safety Saturday is held by the City of Madison Fire Department to promote living habits that keep individuals safe, and to teach children how to make safe choices.

The Fight For Air Climb takes place on Saturday, March 20, 2010 at the U.S. Bank Center in downtown Milwaukee. Participants climb 1,034 steps to fight lung disease and promote lung health. Climbers can participate as an individual or as part of team; competitively or non-competitively, but you don't need to be a star athlete to be a part of this unique physical challenge.

The average climb time is around 15 minutes, and everyone age 13 and up is welcome to make their way to the top! After you finish your climb, relax and enjoy complimentary refreshments and fun. Another Successful Home Show for Badger!

This past weekend, November 20 and 21, Badger Basement Systems exhibited in the Madison Women's Expo at the Aliant Energy Center.

This was the first time that we participated in this show. We decided to dedicate the exhibit to Total Basement Finishing, a division of Badger Basement Systems.

It was a great way to get the word out to our customers that we now can make the basement their favorite room in the house! Badger was there to help all weekend and to answer any questions that the attendees had.

Rainy Weekend in Southern Wisconsin

2 Rounds of rain affected southern Wisconsin this past weekend on October 24-25. Rain spreading over southern Wisconsin Friday night and persisted into Saturday afternoon.

Several locations received over 2 inches, Black River Falls received over 5 inches, and portions of Southern Milwaukee in Northern Racine Counties and inch an hour occurred in several hours at a of time. Rain fell overnight into saturday and 1 to 2.5 inches across all of southern Wisconsin from Madison to Milwaukee and even south into the Illinois border.

A lot of people are calling us saying that now the basement leaks that were once gone are back again so we are busy on the phones and everybody is trying to prepare for the next rainfall that's coming in from Denver and that falling anytime tonight into tomorrow in they say accumulation may reach 2 inches there too.

Free Basement Completed for Fort Atkinson Couple

Just three months after winning a free basement remodel to repair flood damage to their basement, Bob and Joanne Smith now have a brand new basement to enjoy. Thanks to Badger Basement Systems, a local basement waterproofing company, the Smiths can feel some type of normalcy again after the destructive 2008 floods struck the home they've been living in for 40 years.

In May, Badger Basement Systems held a contest open to anyone who sustained damage to a basement as a result of last summer's record floods. There were many entries in the contest, but the Smiths received the most nominations due to the severity of the damage to their home, as well as their active involvement and volunteering in the community. Staff from Badger surprised the couple at their home with balloons and presented them with the free basement renovation.

Neighbors wrote in nominating the couple explaining that the flooding in the basement was so severe, pumps couldn't keep up. Water from the ground was seeping in through the walls of the 100-year-old house. They had to stop pumping out water or the walls would collapse from the pressure. Within a few hours they had 42 inches of water in the basement and they were forced to evacuate the house for a couple of weeks. Although neighbors pitched in to help out, the basement was still ruined.

With a crew of eight Badger staff members, construction began the morning of August 28. They installed a 145-foot perimeter system with some Trench Drains, a SuperSump sump pump, and a buried discharge. The crew started at 8 a.m. and finished cleaning up at 2:30 p.m. After going through the harrowing ordeal of a flooded basement, the Smiths were extremely happy that their basement was fixed again and that Badger was able to finish in just one day.

NSA Softball, Badger Basement Softball Team

We sponsor a NSA Softball team which one of our Salesmen play on every year. This team is filled with talent from our Fort Atkinson Area, and has been making some amazing achievements. To list a few they just placed second at a tournament this weekend, whic h won them a berth into the World Tournament played later this year. Willy, our salesmen, played so well in the tournament he won MVP for the tournament. Way to go Willy!
